CoRD is a Mac OS X remote desktop client for Microsoft Windows computers. As of this writing, CoRD’s website has an announcement saying: “Cord don’t seem to work on 10.9 Mavericks. Check back next week.” This was announced on 2013-10-23. Watch out - the (version 2.1.1) that comes with Mac Microsoft Office 2011 no longer works with Windows 2012 R2 (it does work with plain old Windows 2012). For me it fails with the following error message: Remote Desktop Connection cannot verify the identity of the computer that you want to connect to. A (regular) Windows 2012 Remote Desktop client doesn't have this problem. (Brief aside - Microsoft have a little note that says the 2.1.1 client is not supported on OS X v10.7 or later. Who knew and why did it make me report all those crashes?) The good news is that the 8.0.24091 (Mac App store only though - grr) does work with Windows 2012 R2. Why this information isn't listed on the What's New in 2012 R2 Remote Services page I don't know. (If you wish to make the old client work you can follow the or try the (please someone edit this answer)). According to Microsoft's, the Remote Desktop Connection client for Mac was last updated on 5/5/2011, over 2 years ago. As it says, 'Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac (version 2.1.1) is not intended for use with Mac OS X v10.7 (Lion) or later.' Also note that that page does not list Windows Server 2012 at all under the 'System Requirements.' I would suggest using a newer client (e.g. I use which supports OS X 10.5-10.8), as there may be unexpected behavior from using Microsoft's old software. The way the application works is that every remote desktop goes inside the 'My Desktops' folder. But the user cannot create any more organization than that. It's ridiculous. There is no good reason not to implement that feature unless you're intentionally making an application annoying for Mac Users. Some of us have 50+ remote server connections we need to get to on a regular basis. It would be nice to organize them for each client. The workaround I found useful is creating a blank RDP connection called '------------------------' and then using that to separate my different connections. But it's dumb we have to do this, because we really should be able to categorize RDP connections. Currently, all connections are grouped into 'My Desktops.' The funny part is that this sole category is a drop-down menu so you can minimize the list of all connections. This tells me that they planned to implement categories/folders, but just didn't. Laziness is my best guess. Is there anywhere to get the code for the RDP client on the Mac? Because I could probably implement folders in like 10 minutes. MICROSOFT REMOTE DESKTOP FOR MAC OS X is a free application. How much development effort can a for profit company be expected to put into a product that generates no income and is built to run on a competitors OS? In this case we are getting more than we are paying for. There are other remote access options available for OS X. Some are free, some reasonably priced, some rated better by users than MS's solution. If your time is valuable like mine is, you might want to stop waiting for a behemoth like MS to move, and find something that works better. Or create something better.
